Following Margaret’s NODA award-winning plays Miniskirts & Revelations and Flowery Shirts & Strange Relations this hilarious comedy returns to the village of Littlemead in 1968 (Although partly a spin-off, Rita’s Revenge stands firmly in its own right too.)
In Littlemead village hall we follow nervous leading lady Chris and her fellow cast members through chaotic rehearsals of this ‘shocking, avant-garde play’ written by the mysterious Maurice Travalor and directed by the eccentric and bossy Mrs James. Worrying questions arise:Will precious method-actor Tim manage to embrace the role of dastardly Raymond Brillianteen? Who is Dot/Glamorous Gloria pulling apart behind the scenes? What ludicrous excuse will Fred next send to explain his absence? Will Mrs James manage to control her temper and resist that shocking expletive right to the end? And what is that weird-looking pastry all about?
The biggest question of all: On show night will the good people of Littlemead walkout, appalled? Or will they stay, intrigued to follow the progress of recently-jilted ‘Mousy Rita Rankin’ as she embarks on increasingly daring acts of revenge. Will Rita succeed in her mission? And will she get to pay the price?
The cast of Littlemead Players know the answers, but they’re not letting on.
